Black History Month Begins

“If you know whence you came, there is really no limit to where you can go.”

—James Baldwin

Today marks the beginning of Black History Month 2022.

Many use this month to spout more MLK quotes while not looking at all at their own racist behavior or making any changes to their lives- in fact, they post some words stolen from the past while very consciously working to erase the real histories from the future.

Black History Month is based on knowing the rich, powerful story of Black Americans, past and present.

It also is an opportunity to learn more about the struggle, obstacles and blatant violent racism that has harmed and challenged them all.

It is a chance for Black folks to honor their legacy, take time to rest and celebrate.

It is a chance for non Black folks to educate themselves, make reparations and meditate on other ways they can learn from history to make a better future for all people.

So how will you be spending the next 28 days?
