Black History Month Brings Out the Racist Threats

On the first day of Black History Month 2022, what did we see?

Plenty of tweets, quotes, pictures of Black Americans…

Oh yeah,

and more than 14 Historically Black Colleges & Universities received bomb threats.

Across the country, Black students were forced to shelter in place and fear for their lives while trying to enjoy their education.

While no one was physically harmed, the emotional and mental abuse is immense.

How can this be 2022?

Nazis. Confederate flags. Blatant racism all over the news.

Senators up in arms at the thought of a Black woman on the supreme court.

Books about BIPOC and LGBTQ+ pulled from schools and libraries.

Some teachers not even allowed to teach about Black history in a month dedicated to it.

Racism has always been a part of this country, this country was built on genocide, enslavement and white supremacy.

But damn.

We might as well be back in the 50’s and 60’s.

"It makes me realize how there are still these terrorists that are trying to stop minorities from advancing or just getting a simple education from a predominantly Black institution,"

"I'm just ultimately tired of dealing with this level of unsolicited hatred, I'm just tired of being terrorized like how my grandparents were."

(Saigan Boyd, majoring in dance and psychology at Spelman College, one of the HBCU’s that received threats yesterday.
