War Reveals Racism’s Ugly Global Roots

“Since the beginning of Russia’s attack, videos showing Africans being pushed back from trains and border crossings have gone viral on social media, causing an uproar and sparking statements of concern by African politicians and officials.”

It is terrible enough that any innocent people are harmed when the powers that be decide to initiate war.

The confirmations pouring in that Black people in Ukraine, and BIPOC all over the world, are subjected to even more racism and harm during war, is unacceptable in every way.

So much media is coming out that Africans are not being allowed to escape Ukraine, as the preference is for the white people to get out first, including children…

To make matters worse, even the media reporters are humanizing this war more than attacks in Syria or Palestine because “they look like us…”

“It’s very emotional for me because I see European people with blue eyes and blonde hair being killed,” he said.

(David Sakvarelidze, Ukraine’s former deputy general prosecutor, spoke to the BBC, suggesting that it was harder for him to watch white people fleeing conflict.)

Racism has roots in every culture in this world. It is the ugly truth people with privilege are able to ignore. But more and more, due in part to social media, the reality is coming out. But when will people wake up?

Reports also claim it is more the Ukrainian law enforcement limiting African liberation, rather than citizens- again showing us how deep racism is in cops around the world.

How many more wars, pandemics and daily deaths will it take for us to finally rip out these infested roots, and work towards reparations and change?
