Use Your Voice, Texas: VOTE!

“The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by human beings for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison people because they are different from others.”

The words of Dr. King resonate today as Texas faces an important moment in our state… today’s votes could bring us closer to huge changes for justice- or move us deeper into oppression and corruption.

“My vote is my voice…and the voice of all who struggled, so that I may have my voice.”

(Lydia Obasi)

Much has been done the past few months to limit access to voting, to make the lines harder to cross and to turn voters, especially BIPOC voters, away.

But many have fought and millions of Texans today get to use their vote as their voice.

Here are a few things at stake in this first in the nation Primary Election of the 2022 Election Cycle:

Texas voters will choose party nominees for statewide seats, including governor, and newly drawn, district-based congressional and legislative seats. Those nominees will face off in the general election in November. If no candidate in a primary election receives a majority of the vote, the top two vote-getters go head-to-head in a runoff in May.
