Justice for Quawan Charles
Our hearts are heavy in Dallas as we are learning more about the unfolding tragedy of a 15 year old Black boy in Iberia Parrish, Louisiana. He was picked up from his home by a white teen and his mom and never returned. After 3 days missing, he was found dead. Not just dead, disfigured, mutilated, a modern day lynching being compared to Emmett Till.
It is incomprehensible enough that this occurred at all but a large part of why it was allowed to occur was due to local police not issuing an Amber alert, not helping the parents, not releasing the coroner’s report. The police did not do their job and this boy was allowed to be murdered. His hashtag and story is trending, and should be, as we seek the justice once again not being given for a Black life lost.
The images online are disturbing as his family asked that they be released at this time. Donations have allowed the family to fund their own coroner report and we await the news, we await the justice. We await the time where Black and brown babies are not at risk for torment and torture while those sworn to serve and protect sit idly by.
We offer prayers to the Charles family, this sweet boy’s soul and are committed to creating a community where our children are safe and justice is served.
Rest in Power
