Inhumanity at the border

Texas Gov. Abbott and his leadership continue to prove their unconsciousness and inhumanity through deliberate abhorrent actions and tactics. Within this past week reports on Abbott’s commentary regarding the violence inflicted upon Haitian asylum seekers by border patrol agents stated that the governor would offer employment to any agent dismissed in response to Biden’s comments stating that the border agents would pay. Abbott commented, “I will hire you to help Texas secure our border” further commenting that the actions of border patrol agents were “necessary”. The ignorance and repulsion of the governor continued through his “catch and jail” border security policy which apprehended and detained asylum seekers without charges. Approximately 250 detainees were reportedly released. A few days ago, Abbot released a statement that the “Texas National Guard is gearing up at the border” alongside footage showing military vehicles lined up as he prepares to travel to the border and congregate with nine other Texas governors in a press conference to address the “crisis” at the border. A border that was constructed by the white man through colonization on stolen land that natives are now prohibited and deemed “illegal” to travel freely as their ancestors once did. The border is increasingly becoming a war zone with human lives at risk while white politicians on both sides counteract and attempt to one-up another without any tangible solutions to provide asylum seekers safety and a path to citizenship. Many asylum seekers have traveled decades to reach the border for refuge. Refugees are not criminals and they deserve better.
