Day 2 of KBJ ConfIrmation Hearings
"Over the course of my almost decade on the bench, I have developed a methodology that I use in order to ensure that I am ruling impartially and that I am adhering to the limits on my judicial authority. I am acutely aware that as a judge in our system, I have limited power and I am trying in every case to stay in my lane."
~Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
I do not know how KBJ has stayed calm today.
With the restraint of a saint (and the necessary restraint most Black women have developed to survive the daily onslaught of racism and sexism), Judge Brown Jackson faced each ridiculous question and insane accusation with grace, dignity and patience.
From questions about how often she attends church, to whether she thinks babies are racist (seriously, Ted Cruz asked that!) and if she is soft on sex offenders- Brown Jackson responded like, well, a judge.
Educated, experienced, neutral.
Unlike any of the republicans who questioned her.
None of this would be happening if she were a white man- and mostly not if she were a white woman.
It is disgusting and inappropriate that these are people who actually make laws in this country,
It is hard to watch, but worth it it to see history being made, and the resilience and character of a powerful Black mother resounding across the country. To see her calmly shoot down each desperate word they try to harm her with.
Hard to believe she has another full day of this- but we, and many, many people, are cheering for her.
