Protests Are Conversations: Come Talk to us!
Them: What are you protesting, what happened?
Us:
This company, Baker Botts, only has one Black lawyer and so we are simply saying, “diversify” and standing up for him… and the wife (of the man who runs Baker Botts) also runs a local organization called Park City Chatter, that is exclusive to white privileged kids and getting them into better universities- and we are putting that on blast.
Thank you for asking.”
This is essentially a conversation Co-president Ndure Cain had several times last week while we held another powerful protest in front of Baker Botts in Dallas.
Because that is actually why we protest- to have conversations.
We would prefer to have them with the folks in the buildings or in the clubs- but if they won’t speak to us, we will speak to them through posters, chants, marching and yes, talking to people who care enough to ask.
Protesting is often considered the language of the unheard- because if we were heard by the larger powers, we would not need to protest.
So come out and talk to us!
“The human voice is still the most paramount vessel or weapon to use, to uphold justice and to protest against injustice.”
