Black Deaths VS White Tears…
A few days ago, the verdict came in on the veteran white female cop, Kim Potter, who “accidentally” shot 22 year old Black Daunte Wright, killing him, while he was unarmed on 4/11/21.
She was given two years.
Wright is dead. His young life cut short. His child will never know him, his family will never see him again. and the killer, a trained cop, may serve up to 16 months of her sentence.
The request was for at least seven, if not more.
The judge, who many claim was “moved by white woman tears” and publicly seemed more concerned about Potter than Wright’s family, felt the shorter sentence was supported.
Many disagree.
When we posted our disagreement on twitter, we received the usual trolls who try to claim Wright was a felon, and had it coming and should not have fought back, etc, etc…
the question that keeps coming up, is when will this country, from social media trolls to the justices of the court, began to justify Black lives as much as they justify Black deaths?
Why aren’t Black deaths more valuable than white tears in many eyes?
Today is also President’s day in the US
and the anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X 57 years ago.
Except for one, all presidents are white. and nearly all the early '“founding fathers” owned and violated enslaved people.
this country is based on white supremacy. It is nourished by white tears.
We get little moments of hope, and then the reality sinks back in.
But we keep fighting.
