Dallas City Council’s Budget: A Grave Injustice to Black Dallas

  • Dallas City Council budget leaves Black communities without necessary police presence.

  • We need more officers to protect our parks, schools, and our homes. We deserve safety.

  • Wealthy council members live in gated enclaves, safe from their own policies.

A sinister narrative is unfolding in Dallas. A narrative that sees the Black community, which constitutes a significant 25% of the population, bearing the brunt of a city council that seems to have forsaken its duty to protect and serve all its citizens equitably.

Since our last update, the dark cloud of crime has cast an even longer shadow over our city, claiming several more lives, leaving families shattered and communities living in fear. It is a fear exacerbated by the knowledge that over half of the victims of this relentless crime wave are from the Black community, a statistic that stands as a damning indictment of the city council’s priorities.

The heart-wrenching plea from the family of Kyrie Barnes, offering a $15,000 reward to find the monster who cut short his promising life, is a chilling reminder of the countless families ensnared in a cycle of violence and loss. He fought for life for over a week and eventually succumbed to his injuries that were due to a stray bullet in the middle of the night while he slept. The person who pulled that trigger is out there and lacks the moral compass to turn himself in. This cycle seems to have no end as murderers roam free, leaving a trail of unsolved cases and broken hearts in their wake.

On the other hand, our correctional facilities are nearing breaking point, with jails and juvenile detention centers operating at a perilous 98% capacity, a situation further aggravated by severe understaffing. It is a powder keg waiting to explode, a crisis threatening to engulf our city in chaos. Keep in mind that when we turn our back to the value of authority, anarchy takes on the role of administrating oppression, and this comes at the cost of normalcy.

Yet, amidst this maelstrom, the Dallas City Council seems more preoccupied with lining their pockets, increasing the tax burden, while many are accustomed to exorbitant salaries that stand in grotesque contrast to their abysmal performance. It is a slick form of betrayal, a slap in the face to every citizen who has ever placed their faith in the promise of a safer, more prosperous Dallas.

When we delve into the harrowing realm of sexual assault and enslavement, the picture becomes even more grim. Minorities find themselves as the primary victims, trapped in a nightmare that seems to have no end. It is a scourge that demands immediate and decisive action, a call to arms to protect the most vulnerable among us.

Public safety stands as the paramount concern, a beacon of hope in these troubling times. Yet, it is a concern that must be balanced with the legitimate fears stemming from a history marred by the actions of irresponsible policemen, who have tarnished the badge with acts of brutality and injustice. It is a delicate balance, one that demands a leadership capable of steering our city towards a future where safety and justice are not just buzzwords, but a living reality.

It is time to rise up, to hold our leaders accountable for their disregard for the welfare of our communities.

We deserve more than empty promises and hollow rhetoric. We deserve a leadership that is committed to forging a path towards a brighter, safer, and more inclusive future, where public safety is not just a privilege, but a right that is afforded to all, regardless of race or background.

As we navigate these troubled waters, let us stand united in our demand for justice, for accountability, and for a leadership that truly embodies the spirit of Dallas, a thriving city that should be a represent a place of amples opportunities for everyone.

Together, we can reclaim our city, forging a path that leads to a brighter, safer future for all Dallas residents.
