Vetting Books Under Heinous HB3979
A discreet recording from a Carroll ISD training was leaked and reported for daunting commentary given by a school administrator on the Holocaust. Within the training, teachers were advised to include opposing books to the Holocaust genocide. The oppositional side was Nazi Germany. The training occurred to inform educators of a vetting process per district guidelines recently revised in cooperation with the HB3979 law that requires educators to “strive to explore such issues from diverse and contending perspectives.” An anonymous Caroll ISD teacher, in conversation with CNN, stated that teachers were asked to have opposing views only on specific historical events including the Civil Rights Movement, Holocaust, the Civil War, slavery, and women’s rights. A deliberate plan to distort critical history. Furthermore, educators have been given rubrics with a scale of evaluation criteria to follow for vetting books. Any “singular, dominant narrative in such a way that it cannot be balanced with other materials may be considered offensive” and deemed by the district as “does not meet standard”. Critical narratives written from the lens of an individual’s lived experience, like Anne Frank’s Diary, for example, could be labeled as “standard not met” and vetted. HB3979 is a corrupt tool shroud in whiteness designed to control districts, educators, and educational curricula and related materials by limiting the inhumane truth within America’s genocidal history. There are not two sides to genocide. There are not two sides to slavery.
