Rittenhouse: Another Example of Racism & Corruption
We were not at all surprised when the verdict came in on Friday that Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty.
Why would we be?
This is just the latest example of a white kid being coddled and protected by a system that was literally created to coddle and protect him and those like him.
We could name thousands of other white male shooters, rapists, racists, serial killers, mass murderers, who destroyed way more than three people, who were treated as the “nice kids” our government claims they are.
No, we were not at all surprised by the ridiculousness of the judge, the jurors, and those who immediately took the side of fragile white privilege.
Not surprised.
Disgusted? Yes. Angry? Yes. Beyond ready to burn it down? YES.
Grieving for the thousands of Black and Brown kids who can’t even carry candy without being shot, or put away in prison for life with no evidence? YES.
We do live in a time where many have a voice and platform that have not in the past, and more and more people are seeing and speaking out against this corruption. Many are protesting in the streets and putting themselves at risk to demand change. This is where we continue to focus our attention and energy.
The entire Rittenhouse family apparently has to move out of state to be under legal protection against the people who are tired of this system’s coddling. And while the white kid may indeed have a future with the white supremacists of this country, his name will not soon be forgotten by the rest. At the end of the day, will he be grateful this system worked for him in the short term? Only time will tell.
We may not be surprised at the verdict but those who passed the verdict may find themselves surprised at the longterm results of their actions. Keep adding fuel to the fire, keep losing the flicker of faith in this country, and see what surprises emerge.
We don’t have time to be “surprised, shocked, horrified” by yet another day of racist business as usual in the United States. We have work to do.
