Rise Above

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

(MLK, Jr)

The broader concerns of all humanity are glaring upon us. So many oppressed, suffering, the imbalance of power so blatant as the weather gets colder, the nights longer and this pandemic ramps up in disproportionate numbers.

As hospitals are overrun due to those caught up in their individualistic concerns, soon the decision of who is cared for and who is not will become life or death.

Will it be minorities, BIPOC, those in poverty who are cared for?

Or those with the best insurance, the best "chance" of having the quality of life to survive.

We cannot keep ignoring how systemic racism and corruption underlie every single choice we make.

As brother King says, in order to start living, and to stop dying, we must rise above.

Stay home, stay strong, stay vigilant.

Those in power, our ancestors and descendants are looking at you to rise, as well.
