On Fear

“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”

-Rosa Parks

Fear is a constant for many of us.

Fear is part of our survival response.

To feel fear means we will act to stay alive.

It is important to recognize that there are different forms of fear, and some fears actually indicate that we need to move forward anyway- weighing out the implications of acting or not acting out of fear, we look to the wisdom of Rosa parks and other revolutionary voices.

Just because they did a courageous thing, did this mean they were unafraid? No.

And at times, was that fear justified? Yes.

Sometimes we must move through the fear to take the right action, no matter the cost.

This is another reason to be educated on your truth, your history, on discernment and on what it means to be afraid, but to still do what is right anyway.

(Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott. The United States Congress has called her "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement".)
