Making Good Trouble in Dallas

“Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."

- John Lewis

We are ending a tumultuous year by making some noise.

Last week we activated 3 local protests to bring “good trouble” to park city chatter (for keeping BIPOC out), D magazine (for trying to silence a Black woman) and Baker Botts, for outdated Jim Crow practices.

here is a little taste of the action:

“Got to give us what we want

Gotta give us what we need

Our freedom of speech is freedom or death

We got to fight the powers that be

Fight the power

Fight the power

Fight the power

Fight the power

We've got to fight the powers that be”

(from Public Enemy lyrics)

D Magazine tried to silence a Black woman. Well, we are here to tell you that we will not let that happen. Power in the protest:

“I think there’s a weapon of cynicism to say, ‘Protest doesn’t work. Organizing doesn’t work. Y’all are a bunch of hippies. You know, it doesn’t do anything.’ because, frankly, it’s said out of fear, because it is a potent force for political change.”

-AOC

“I think of protest as confrontation and disruption, as the end of silence.”

-DeRay Mckesson

We know our rights. And security at D Magazine knows it, too, as do the Dallas police.

“D Magazine, we’ve had enough

They tried to shut

A Black woman up.”
