HBD John Lewis

Yesterday 2/21 was the birthday of "Good Trouble" ancestor John Lewis.

In honor of his life, we wanted to start the week with one of the many wise quotes he shared.

It is important to remember that yes, sometimes, we do need to get in the way- get in the way of those who continue to be cruel and unjust. Get in the way of the people and policies that are harmful and support the unsustainable systems of oppressions currently crumbling all around us.

Sometimes, we have to make noise.

We have the right to speak up, make noise, get in the way of the status quo- as this is is the only way to bring justice.

Rest in Power, Mr. Lewis. Thank you & happy birthday wherever you are.

“Sometimes you have to get in the way. You have to make some noise by speaking up and speaking out against injustice and inaction.”

Rep. John Lewis

John Robert Lewis was an American politician, statesman, and civil rights activist and leader who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020. He was the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee from 1963 to 1966.
