A Composite Nation
“In a composite nation like ours, as before the law, there should be no rich, no poor, no high, no low, no white, no black, but common country, common citizenship, equal rights and a common destiny.”
― Frederick Douglass
Today as Georgia votes and we await those results, witnessing continually rising covid cases (and deaths), the electoral college senate vote tomorrow, and the daily violence and injustice that is constant, it is hard to look at words written in the 1800's and process that we are no closer to common country, citizenship, equal rights or common destiny than we were back then.
Asking why is important as we must look at the past, our history, in order to move forward. But is is also necessay to stay focused on the goal.
