DJN and the Jim Crow “Literacy Tests”
Dallas Justice Now and the Jim Crow “Literacy Tests”
In the Jim Crow south, if black people wanted to vote, they had to pass absurd “literacy” tests.
Here is an example of such a test. Could you get a score of 100%?

If not, then you would not be able to cast a vote.
Similar standards are being applied by many racist white members of the media and their wealthy white supporters. Many of them have falsely presented Dallas Justice Now as somehow illegitimate based on no evidence besides citing that we are asking wealthy white liberals to make a sacrifice for once in their privileged lives. Who does the media work for? Privileged whites. Coincidence?
When DJN reached out to them to set the record straight, we responded to all so called critiques:
1. We provided copies of our incorporation paperwork
2. We provided definitive evidence showing we are run by a black woman and not by right wing whites as is so falsely claimed
3. We provided copies of our 501c4 application with the IRS
Instead of printing retractions and apologies to us and our volunteers, these racists have instead demanded we provide more paperwork and submit to more interrogations of our character. We will not submit to literacy tests.
Does ANYONE think a white person would be forced to undergo this scrutiny? These people who attack DJN and our volunteers are disgusting racists. If they do not issue retractions, DJN reserves the right to take legal action to defend our good name.
We find the insinuations even more offensive because as we speak DJN volunteers are going door to door and calling folks in the Park Cities to follow up on the pledge. We look forward to having quality person to person conversations about WHY it is so important that our community be given greater access to educational institutions which for most of their existence did not even recognize us as human beings. We hope our person to person conversations will set the record straight in a way that journalists have failed to do.
